Introduction
The Education Department is one of the five (5) departments at the Bong County Technical College (BCTC). It comprises of two main areas of specification: Secondary Education with emphasis in Math and Physics, Biology and Chemistry and Primary Education.
Plans are on the way to add another degree-granting area in Early Childhood Development.
Faculty of the Department
BCTC Department of Education has well-qualified, experienced, hardworking, and honest faculty. The Lecturers of the Department are all Master’s
Degree and PhD holders as per the College policy. So, you can see that the Department provides standard and competitive education.
Achievements
From its start to the present, the Department has had three commencement convocations. The first was held on Saturday, December 19, 2020, graduating six males with Bachelor of Science Degree (B.Sc.) in Secondary Education with an emphasis in Math/Physics, and Biology/Chemistry.
The second convocation was held on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 graduating 29 students (2 females and 27 males) with Bachelor of Science Degree (B.Sc) in Primary Education and Secondary Education with emphasis in Math/Physics, and Biology/Chemistry. The third convocation was held on Friday, April 28 2023 graduating 71 students (12 females and 59 males) with Bachelor of Science Degree (B.Sc) in Primary Education and Secondary Education with emphasis in Math/Physics, and Biology/Chemistry.
Classrooms
The Education Department classrooms are designed to accommodate all students, including special needs students. Our classes have good lighting, ventilation, chairs, modern whiteboards, and electrical outlets for gadgets. Our lecturers use whiteboard markers and projectors to teach.
Success Stories
Our graduates are making headway in the educational sector in Bong, Lofa, and Nimba Counties. From our survey, about 90% of our graduates are employed in different educational institutions. Some are serving as principals, vice principals, and teachers. One of the graduates is named
by the president of the Republic of Liberia as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Bong County Technical College.
